John: Hello everyone, welcome to our ExpertGate interview series. My name is John, the General Manager at ExpertGate. In this series, we connect with top-tier experts and industry leaders driving insights and creating global impact. Today, we’re thrilled to have Saul, one of Australia’s leading economists, join us.
John: Saul has an extensive background in economic research, policy, and analysis. Today, we’ll explore his career insights and his new consulting role on ExpertGate. Saul, thank you for joining us! Can you start by sharing a bit about your background and what motivated you to join ExpertGate?
Saul: Thank you, John. I’ve been a professional economist for 45 years. Starting in the public sector at the Australian Treasury, I transitioned into the private sector and worked in various roles, including chief economist at a stockbroking firm and financial institutions. In 2015, I began my consulting business from my home state, Tasmania, and I see ExpertGate as an opportunity to expand my consulting services globally.
Saul: Over my career, I’ve worked with government inquiries, public policy think tanks, and private enterprises. Setting up my consulting business allowed me to return to Tasmania while addressing broader economic trends. ExpertGate offers a platform to connect with clients not just in Australia but across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
John: With such a rich background, what types of clients are you looking forward to working with on ExpertGate, and how can your expertise help them?
Saul: I’ve worked with diverse clients, including companies, boards, government agencies, and individuals. My focus areas include macroeconomic trends, regional economies like China and Indonesia, and specific industries such as agriculture, mining, energy, and housing. I tailor my presentations and reports to meet clients’ unique needs, ensuring added value.
John: ExpertGate is a social enterprise, donating 50% of profits to further education in underprivileged communities. What opportunities do you see for making a social impact through your work?
Saul: I’ve always been a strong advocate for education. Economic history shows that education is key to sustainable development, especially for countries lacking natural resources. Even resource-rich nations benefit from education to ensure equitable distribution of wealth. ExpertGate’s mission aligns with my belief in the transformative power of education.
John: Thank you, Saul, for your time and insights. It’s been inspiring to learn about your journey and the impact you hope to make. We’re excited about your future contributions to ExpertGate. To our viewers, thank you for joining us. Stay tuned for more conversations with top experts like Saul. We look forward to bringing you insights to achieve your goals.
Saul: Thank you, John. It’s been a pleasure.
